The Great Chamber

The Great Chamber

William’s chamber was not just a bedroom, but a lounge, a study, and a place to welcome and entertain the most privileged guests. Here would have been kept William’s bed, his clothes, and his favoured belongings. In the modern age, this room holds York Archaeology’s most treasured items as well. The cases in this room contain artefacts of the medieval period, excavated from beneath our city’s streets over the last 50 years.
