Item
- Title
- P0335 West Bank Park, Holgate
- Alternative Title
- 1995.0335 West Bank Park, Holgate
- Description
-
The deposits encountered within the areas of excavation were all of modern origin, deposited above natural. The northern part of the site showed evidence of its previous use as a landscaped park. The natural surface was cut by a large water-filled feature, which showed evidence of silting and had subsequently been filled in and the whole area levelled off.
Following the levelling of the site, glasshouses and associated buildings were erected and utilised as York City Nursery. The alignments of these brick structures with concrete floors were visible on the surface although the structures themselves had been demolished. The southern part of the site showed no evidence of human activity beneath the modern overburden. - Type
