- York glazed ware depicting scales/feathers and animal
- Beasts at Barley Hall: These fragments of York glazed ware show feathers or scales, possibly from a dragon. Dragons were likened to the devil and known as the greatest serpent of them all. Some medieval texts, including the York bestiary, describe dragons wrapping themselves around their prey to suffocate it, and do not mention any ability to breathe fire.
