P5416 Land off West End Avenue, Appleton Roebuck, North Yorkshire

Item

Title
P5416 Land off West End Avenue, Appleton Roebuck, North Yorkshire
Description
The site lies away from the historic core of Appleton Roebuck and off the principal road through the village. The evidence from aerial photographs, the National Mapping Project and from casual finds from the study area suggests that archaeological features of the prehistoric period could be encountered within the boundaries of the site although at present there is no specific evidence from the site itself.

The location of the site, the map evidence and the presence of medieval ridge and furrow across the site makes it quite unlikely that the site contains significant archaeology of the medieval and later periods although it is possible that post-medieval clay extraction pits and kilns could be encountered. Overall the archaeological potential for the site could be considered moderate. It should, however be noted that no large scale or significant archaeological fieldwork has been undertaken in or around the site and its true potential remains, for the present time, uncertain.
