P5418 Land to the rear of Post Office, 19 Westgate, Tadcaster, North Yorkshire

Item

Title
P5418 Land to the rear of Post Office, 19 Westgate, Tadcaster, North Yorkshire
Description
Both the archaeological and historical evidence reviewed in this report clearly indicates that Tadcaster in general has been a place of some considerable significance with evidence of activity beginning in the prehistoric period. From the Roman period onwards this activity appears to be permanent and in the form of settlement continuing to the present day.

With regard to the site itself, although no direct historical evidence has been found, a consideration of the archaeological evidence may indicate that archaeological remains of potentially great significance may be encountered below ground with the possibility of prehistoric and all later periods being represented.
