A0612 Crown Court, York Castle

Item

Title
A0612 Crown Court, York Castle
Alternative Title
1989.7 Crown Court, York Castle (Shd Mon)
Description
Excavations in advance of underpinning the north-east wall of the Crown Court had been the subject to previous consolidation programmes which had extensively disturbed the adjacent archaeological deposits. However, sufficient evidence survives to indicate that this part of the bailey of York Castle was used as a dump during the medieval period. Fragmentary remains of post-medieval buildings may represent the Grand Jury House, the 17th C predecessor to the Crown Court building.
