- Alternative Title
- YORYM:2000.587 Gas Trench, 21-23 Avenue Terrace
- Description
- Four human bones were found by contractors in a service trench cut. It was not possible to discern a grave or grave cut but this was likely to have been due to the fact that the new gas main had already been placed (though not back-filled) within the machine trench. It is understood that all of the bone was recovered from the same find spot. No further human bone was recovered elsewhere within the trench or was visible on the spoil-heap. It is perhaps most likely that the human bone relates to an inhumation of the Roman period, probably one that was either isolated or within a widely dispersed cemetery.
