- Description
- Historical research indicated that although the original well-head structure was a commission of the York architect John Carr, this had been rebuilt in 1858 by the then City Surveyor, Thomas Pickersgill. Archaeological excavation identified the flagstone floor of Pikeing Well and a centrally placed stone lined pool which was still filled with water. An "open receiver" well was also located and found to have been backfilled with its original stonework.
