Reuse Permission

For enquiries on reusing the material in our digitised fascicules, please refer to the FAQ "How can I use the digitised fascicules?"

Enquiries about Access to the Collections for Research
Access to collections and archives for research is via application form which asks for details of the research institution, references, a summary of the research design, and timescale. Applications are reviewed regularly against a set of criteria including research merit, York Archaeology's own research agenda, benefit to the organisation, public benefit, existing commitments to other researchers, and departmental workload. Please email your initial enquiry with information about your research including requested material and project details.
Enquiries about Artefacts
If you would like to make an enquiry about one of our small finds, please include the name of the site, the small find number, and the material and object type, e.g. 16-22 Coppergate, SF73, Amber Fragment.
If you would like to make an enquiry about a specific artefact mentioned in a fascicule, we would request that you send us the name of the fascicule, the name of the site, and the small find number (identified at the end of each catalogue entry with the prefix “sf”), rather than the catalogue number which precedes each entry. This allows us to quickly identify and locate the artefact on our internal system.
Enquiries about Images
If you would like to make an enquiry about a specific illustration, drawing, or photograph depicted in a fascicule, we would request that you send us (1) the name of the fascicule, (2) the figure numbers (e.g. Fig. 117), and (3) the pages the figures may be found on. This allows us to quickly identify and locate the illustrations referenced in your enquiry.
Enquiries about Excavation Reports
If you would like to access an excavation report, please include the name or address of the site and the year of excavation in your enquiry. If you are interested in a particular aspect or period of the site please specify this as, for some of our larger sites, the reports may be subdivided accordingly.
